THE MAN BEHIND THE WORDS
Hey, I'm Tom Williams!
I'm a Bachelor of Communication (Advertising) student at Deakin University and an enthusiastic emerging copywriter with a burning hunger to create headlines that resonate with different audiences.
Personally, what excites me most about advertising is the moment when words, visuals, and strategy all align simultaneously to create an idea that genuinely connects with people. I have always loved storytelling and the ability to make an audience intentionally feel something. For a long time, I pictured my future on a stage. Few things felt more rewarding than delivering a line that earned a laugh, or holding a moment so completely that the room became quiet enough to hear a pin drop. Eventually, I realised that what I loved most wasn’t simply performing. It was subverting expectations and creating an impactful shared feeling - something the audience would remember.
In Year 9, I decided to let my creativity lead me in another direction. My high school had put on a production of the musical The Addams Family. I decided to audition and was cast as a lead role, Lucas Beineke. I continued performing throughout high school, learning how elements such as tone, expression, symbolism and timing can completely change the way a message is received. To this day, my love of musical theatre has remained. Whilst I don't perform anymore, I continue to go out with friends and family to watch different renditions of my favourite musicals. These experiences eventually helped me realise that what I loved most wasn’t simply performing — it was creating ideas that could surprise, entertain and connect with people.
Outside of being creative, I collect hobbies like I collect Pokémon cards. Each as unique and different as the last. As you can tell, my fridge is progressively filling up with magnets. I love travelling. I have collected ones from all around Australia… Western Australia is still missing. On my bucket list, I also plan to visit Europe again, Egypt, Greece and Japan. Home to some of the cultures I'm extremely fascinated by.
Coincidentally, home to some of my favourite foods too…
But if you can’t find me on a plane or in a car, you may be able to find me sitting at home, PlayStation controller in hand youtube video playing in the background, whilst playing an assortment of games. From Baldur's Gate 3, to God of War, I even dabble in some FPS games such as Overwatch. Whilst games can appear as somewhat of a typical hobby, I actually find myself immersed in their communities. Each one is so vastly different and welcoming; you just never know who you may meet!

At the age of seven, I was introduced to the world of music. I began some of my very first music lessons… Although, to tell you the truth, young Tom wasn’t exactly enthused by this idea of more work. But I quickly became enchanted by the way music could influence emotion and move an audience. As I grew up, that fascination began to morph into lyrics, and a curiosity was born as to why certain words or phrases stayed with me. That curiosity then led me into songwriting and music production, where I began experimenting with language and storytelling.
